Early Bloomer

This flowering bush around the pool doesn't normally start blooming til sometime mid April. It has such pretty flowers and I'm glad we get to enjoy them for an extra couple of weeks this year.

So Long

Today was Tom's last day at work. He finally gets to retire for real this time! It's been a long journey for him at the warehouse, but all good things must come to an end...oh wait, this is really just the beginning of the best journey of all. I wish you all the fun and happiness retirement is supposed to be about! See ya later!

More Dishwashers Galore

Broken Collar Bone

Our little Lexi broke her collar bone a couple of days ago...she fell and put her arm out to catch herself. What's amazing is that she didn't have much pain. Her mom didn't even realize there was a problem til the next day when she noticed Lexi wasn't using her arm. When the doctor asked her to raise her arm during his examination he was astonished that it didn't hurt her! What a tough little cookie! No surgery required, but she has to wear a brace for at least 4 weeks pending the follow up appointment. Unfortunately, this will probably put a damper on her 7th birthday party plans in 2 weeks.

Away In a Manger

The neighbor put this manger scene out at Christmas...I'm beginning to believe it'll never get put away. I've never seen a manger scene under blooming trees before. Maybe it serves some Easter purpose? (And yes, he has mowed around it already).

United Methodist Church (Ada, OH)

The United Methodist Church, an historic church built in 1900 in Ada, OH, burned yesterday afternoon. It was completely destroyed and all that remains is a gutted shell. The building wasn't empty when the fire broke out. A headstart class of 16 children was inside practicing a tornado drill when the fire alarms went off. Everyone got out safely.

Digital Art

Digital art fascinates me...the
creativity and imagination involved eludes me, but I would like to try someday. You can download this picture and others here.

There have been some pretty stout winds here the last few days. A branch blew out of the big maple tree in the front yard and landed in such a way that it looks like another small tree growing out of the ground. What are the odds really that it would land this way? Pretty neat.

Lunar Halo

I actually took this picture a couple of full moons ago, but since we've just had another full moon, I thought now would be a good time to post this.

Don't Start A Fire When The Wind Blows

Yesterday, the neighbor to 45 Pines decided to burn some trash in the corner of her property. Unfortunately, it was a really windy day and the wind picked up some of her fire and blew it into the corner of 45 Pines where a nice brush pile was sitting happily. The neighbor realized that the brush pile was on fire and so was the fence that borders 45 Pines. She had no hose that would reach the pile so she ran to get some buckets. Did she really think that would work? OMG!!!!! Fortunately, the neighbor behind her saw the fire and ran for his hose which would reach. V just happened to look out the kitchen window and saw the billowing smoke and went to check it out. She worked with the other two to break down the pile to put the smoldering fire out for about half an hour. Thankfully, the fire didn't get the pine tree that sits right next to the brush pile...that would have ended very tragically for the rest of the pines that line the backyard. The old homestead would've had to have been renamed to Charred and Burned Pines. The burned fence rails and posts will be replaced courtesy of the neighbor who learned a valuable lesson...(see title to this post).

Empty Chair

This empty desk is where my partner in crime at work sits...the chair was (mostly) empty today. (Of course, I had to sit there for part of the day to fill in). I missed him and I sure hope he comes back to work tomorrow.

Hate Crime

Photo By The Star-Ledger, John O'Boyle, Pool

This is what evil looks like...his name is Dharun Ravi...he's the asshole who used a webcam to spy on his roommate, Tyler Clementi at Rutgers University during an intimate encounter with another man...days later, Tyler committed suicide. Ravi has said that he felt uncomfortable with having a gay roomate, yet he took the time to set up a webcam to spy on his roommate? Hmmm. Ravi is now on trial and faces 15 charges to include bias intimidation (a hate crime) punishable by up to 10 years in state prison. I hope he gets the maximum sentence and a few other things along with it.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse

Once a year at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, they shut down the (electric) light and switch over to the 5 kerosene lamps and fresnel lens that were used originally when the lighthouse was built 135 years ago. It's so beautiful and such a different effect!

At one point yesterday afternoon, the thermometer in my car read 70 degrees...in Ohio! Not bad for the last day of February!
