Shel Silverstein And "Where The Sidewalk Ends"

When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was "Where The Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein.  I had memorized most of the poems in that book.  I don't know most of them by heart anymore, but I still enjoy reading them when I get a chance.  Here's a very fitting poem for today:

Over Forty, But Maybe Not Quite Looking It?

I bought some beer and wine coolers yesterday.  I got carded.  How awesome is that?!

Classroom Easter

Since V has become the designated holiday decorator for her classroom, she decided to go all out for the last big one of the school year and of course, I helped her.  We spent a short time hunting templates online and hours and hours and hours cutting all the stuff out.  The end result was worth an entire Saturday spent on the couch with a numb butt and scissor fingers and wrist.  Here are just a few pictures of the fabulous Easter display.

Sidenote:  All of the cutting for Easter took place after just a two-week break from all the St. Patrick's Day decorations we cut out too.  I didn't put any of those pictures on, but I will post one now.  All the stars you see in the rainbow were hand cut out and about 60 gold coins for the pot were also cut out by hand.  What you can't see too many of are the hundred or so shamrocks we cut out by hand too.  I'm glad the school year is almost over.  :)

A Really Silly Short Story

I wanted to talk to the sun today.  I think I woke him up when I called.  He told me I should have waited longer to call.  I asked him why I should have waited longer.  He told me he wasn't ready to wake up.  I asked him why he wasn't ready to wake up.  He said he was still sleepy.  I said I understood, but I was ready for him to wake up.  So I said, "C'mon Mr. Sun!  I need you to make me feel like I want to run and play and stay out all day!  Please Mr. Sun, wake up and shine!" He said, "Ok, I will."  And he did.

The End

Happy 21st

I have officially been at my job for 21 years now so I wonder if that makes it legal for me to drink there. (I wish)!  I have so many reasons to like being in my job, but many more for hating it.  Through the outsourcings and the idiots who pretend they know how to manage the facility, things have become very different...and while I'm not against change, I have absolutely hated the changes that have occured in the last year or so.  I could probably write a book, but that would be a really, really long book. So while I churn and burn inside, I mostly keep it to myself save for the few unfortunate souls who allow me to vent at them.  Thanks you guys!  Anyway, I wish I could say I'm on to bigger and better things, but I'll continue on for now and say to myself, "Happy Fucking Anniversary!"

Tom Snow featuring Warren Wiebe - "That's What Love Can Do"

I received my Tom Snow Original Demos cd featuring Warren Wiebe last Thursday (see this post).
I have listened to it several times in the last few days and have decided that track 8 is my absolute favorite from this album.  It's called "That's What Love Can Do." It's such a beautiful song and Warren's voice is superb on this one. Tom Snow comments on the track himself, "Though the country pop group Mid Country made a terrific recording of it, there's no substitute for Warren." Listen and see if you agree.

I used to try to stand alone
Walk through this world on my own
Never thought I’d need help from anyone
So proud, so unafraid
I lived by the mistakes I made
Never stopped to think ‘til the damage was done
When you came along my hopes were runnin’ low
But you made me strong
Taught me how to trust someone
To carry on, and I now I know

That’s what love can do
When you’re down on your knees
It’ll reach out for you
Lift you up and pull you through
Oh, it’s true, that’s what love can do

I wish everybody else could find
A love as sweet as yours and mine
I know they’d understand what I’m trying to say
Just trust your heart and be strong
‘Til that right one comes along.
You know it happens, it happens every day
One day you’re lost, shiverin’ out in the cold
Next day you’ll find
Somebody’s taken hold of your heart and soul
Then you'll know

That’s what love can do
When you’re down on your knees
It’ll reach out for you
Lift you up and pull you through
Oh it’s true, that’s what love can do

It’ll take ahold of your heart and soul
And then you’ll know

That’s what love can do
When you’re down on your knees
It’ll reach out for you
Lift you up and pull you through
Oh it’s true, that’s what love can do
