Photo Altering

I was reading through the Yahoo news section today and came across this [I think] interesting article on pre-digital photo manipulation. The olden days of photo manipulation must have been a painstaking process...stitching multiple pictures together or working with negatives and darkroom processes seem prehistoric to me now in a world where just one click or movement of the mouse can drastically change a photo with the correct software.

Photo 1. A photo of President Lincoln's head was placed on the image of Southern politician John Calhoun to create the portrait on the left.

Photo 2. Adolf Hitler had Joseph Goebbels (second from the right) removed from the original photograph after a falling out.

Photo 3. The photograph of Ulysses S. Grant on the left is actually a composite of these three different photographs pieced together.

Photo 4. General Francis P. Blair (on the far right end) was added to this Matthew Brady photograph at a later date.

I have very fond memories of hanging out down here in my Seattle days...sometimes I miss it a lot!

Nap Time

V says Sophie is holdin' down the sun when she sleeps in the warm spot of the sun coming in the window. I always think that should be the title to some country song...holdin' down the sun. :)

Some oil lamps I got as a gift a year ago last Christmas. I displayed them empty for over a year and decided it was time to put some oil in them and light them. They really do look pretty and I wish I would have done it sooner. These two pictures were taken with different light settings. I prefer the darker one.

Argyle Building

There was a fire in Findlay yesterday morning in an old building across the street from one of the tallest buildings (Marathon) in the downtown area. The building housed 32 apartments (20 occupied) on the upper floors and 3 businesses on the lower floor. The fire broke out at approximately 4:00 in the morning and burned most of the day. These pictures were taken by a friend of my boss's wife who was on top of the Marathon building in the early stages of the fire-fighting operation. The roof collapsed and according to the local paper, the estimated total loss is $662,000. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The building is now just a brick shell and will probably have to be demolished.

Maybe These Will Help

These are allergy pills. I don't normally have to take them in the winter, but have started again today (on top of my weekly allergy shot). I've been so congested the last couple of weeks and couldn't quite understand why because I don't have a cold. Then, yesterday a gal I work with told me she went to her doctor because she thought she was getting pretty sick with a really bad head cold and drainage. Her doctor told her she didn't have a cold, but is suffering from her seasonal allergy stuff...wth? Then it all became clear with the next thing she told me...trees and plant life are budding and blooming because it's been so warm here! A-ha! Duh! Who would've thought seasonal allergies to be an issue in the middle of February in the (normally snow-covered, freezing) state of Ohio? Not me!!! That's the side effect of enjoying a mild, warm, minimal snow winter this year for us I guess...

WTF?!

I just read that Lindsay Lohan landed a role to play Elizabeth Taylor on an upcoming Lifetime movie called "Liz and Dick". (enter sarcasm here)...The resemblance is uncanny and Lindsay possess all the grace, glamor, poise and beauty necessary to accurately portray Elizabeth. This is one Lifetime movie I won't be watching.

What Do You See?

This is an office door at my place of work. I swear I see a person (like an Aborigine with long pieces of hair sticking straight up or maybe a cartoon rabbit with big ears) in the grain pattern.

Sophie's Bone

Sophie got a new bone. We hid it under the coffee table to see if she would/could get it out from underneath. We decided to phone video the attempt.

My daughter-in-law posted these pictures on her facebook page. I [stole] them. I am amazed at how fast these two kids are growing! Aiden is only 2, but looks 4 in this picture while Lexi has the longest, skinniest legs I have ever seen on a 6 year old (and the biggest feet)!

Addiction

My new addiction...a game I love to hate and hate to love!

I found this cool little app on my phone called Tripping Fest. It's pretty fun. I'm not much of an artist, but it's like doodling. At the very least, it's entertaining.

Sorry Jack, Chucky's Back

My friend J told me this story at work this morning and it made me laugh [a lot]. He has a grandson who has always been afraid of Chucky since he was very young. His grandson is now 8 and so J asked him last night if he was still afraid of Chucky. He replied, "nah" (like he's too old to be afraid. Seriously, Grandpa). So, J told him he had Chucky on his cell phone (one of those things that go viral on the phone that had the picture and the well-known Chucky laugh to complete the effect) and wanted to show him. His grandson's reply..."I'll be right back".

Sophie got a much needed bath yesterday. After the first rinse this is what was left...

End result: happy dog!

Painted Nails

V let me paint her nails a few days ago with a new color I had just purchased. She's not one to really ever paint her nails and I didn't expect her to let me do it when I half-heartedly asked her if I could...I was suprised when she said yes and especially to this color! It looks pretty good actually. (Of course I painted mine too). :)

2/4/12

Everyone in Findlay woke up this morning to unexpected snow...it was pretty while it lasted. As of early evening, it's now mostly gone.
