I didn't know who Mads Mikkelsen was until I started watching 'Hannibal' this last season. I guess I had seen him in 'Casino Royale' several years ago with no knowledge of who he was. The increasing fascination with him that came creeping up on me while watching 'Hannibal' lead me to do the Wikipedia thing (you know the drill - his age, where he was from, his career, his personal life, etc.). I came across a reference to a short black and white (and mostly silent) film from his native Denmark called ‘Nu” (2002) that Mads had a central role in. I found the film on YouTube and watched it. My first impression was that it was one of those artsy-fartsy films. It didn't have much appeal initially and the story line seemed convoluted. It’s been several weeks since I watched the film and I think about it periodically and what the writer/director was trying to convey. I can safely say that the film made an impression with me. It’s not a feel good film, but it is intriguing. If you have about a half hour to spare, it might be worth your time.
