Today is Keenan's 54th birthday. I think this is one talented guy (along with the rest of the Wayans gang). I was a faithful watcher of 'In Living Color' in the 90s and every once in awhile I catch part of an episode airing on some obscure cable channel and it still makes me laugh.
Happy Birthday Keenan!
Rosie Perez and J-Lo were dancers on the old In Living Color show! The Wayans were/are (?) Jehovah Witnesses, which doesn't really mean much, but if you know people of this faith, they don't celebrate birthdays, Christmas, or other holidays. My daughter's best friend growing up was a JW and it was like pulling teeth to get the parents to allow her to go to my kid's birthday parties and what not. On the other hand, Momma of the best friend was my daughter's day care provider for many years, then the teenage daughter was the "babysitter" later on, and to this day, I am still friends with that family! The grandma matriarch still lives three blocks from me, and she is pushing probably 90 right now!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, HB to Keenan, probably one of the funniest guys ever, and I MEAN EVER!!!!!
So I had these 2 neighbor girls that used to babysit me and my brothers when we were living in Toledo (I was about 10 I guess) who were JWs. I can still remember them trying to explain to me why they didn't celebrate holidays and birthdays. I thought it to be quite fucked up back then, but it didn't really affect my holidays or birthdays so I didn't really care. I did really like those girls and I sorta felt sorry for them in my juvenile way of thinking about how they were getting gyped out of a lot of fun. Over the years I have gotten plenty pissed off with the JWs who come knocking on the door, but I have learned to just settle down about it. Most religious practices seem silly to me (but that's a whole other topic of conversation).
